Coronation Street star Anne Kirkbride passes away aged 60!

Coronation Street star Anne Kirkbride has passed away today aged 60.

Anne Kirkbride played Deirdre Barlow for 43 years in Coronation Street.

Anne announced in September she was taking a three month break from the show and was set to return to the soap this month.

The actress was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 1993 but returned to the soap 12 months after, following successful treatment.

Speaking in 2001, Anne revealed the diagnosed lymphoma lead to a lengthy battle with depression.

She said: “I just wanted to die because you just don’t want to go on living feeling like that.

“But you’re frightened that if you die you might still feel like that on the other side.

“There’s no escape.”

Anne Kirkbride died at a hospital in Manchester after a short illness today.
