Anne Kirkbride sadly passed away yesterday in a hospice after fighting an illness for a few days.

Anne’s husband, David Beckett is said to be “heartbroken” over her death.

William Roache who plays Anne’s on-screen husband Ken Barlow said: “She is like a member of the family. We all wanted to work today but we couldn’t. When we walked on to set I could feel Annie’s presence. It’s a day of tribute.”

“I feel Anne’s loss so personally having worked closely with her for over 40 years.

“She was such a loving and vibrant person.

“You always knew she was there because her laugh was never far away.

“She was an impeccable performer with superb comedy timing and an immense gift for really heightened drama.”

Producer Kieran Roberts said: “We’ll carry on for Annie but today is a day to reflect. We did try and film today but after half an hour it was obvious it wasn’t going to happen and everyone stood down from filming.”
