Alton Towers have announced the park will remain closed tomorrow (4th June) following yesterday’s Smiler crash which injured four.
The crash involved two carriages on a low section of the track. One of the carriages was empty and the other had 16 guests in it and was travelling at approximately 20 miles per hour, the statement revealed.
The community first responders were on the scene within minutes. Due to the location of the incident on the ride it was necessary to build a platform in order to begin evacuation. Alton Towers staff began construction immediately which enabled the emergency services to reach those involved as soon as they arrived at the scene.
Four people with serious injuries were treated at the scene and transferred to hospital. The 12 others involved were fully evacuated by 18.35 and the Emergency Services and Alton Towers’ experienced care team were on hand to look after them. Of these, one other was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure and has now been discharged.
Alton Towers Resort will remain closed tomorrow (4th June) for Health and Safety and Senior members of Alton Towers to continue with their investigation.
