The YouTube glitterati came out in full force for the world premiere of Joe & Caspar Hit The Road at London’s Empire cinema in Leicester Square on Sunday 22nd November.
Attendees of the red carpet event, hosted by fellow YouTuber Jim Chapman, included stars of Hit The Road Joe Sugg and Caspar Lee, along with Zoella, Alfie Deyes, Tanya Burr and Marcus Butler.
Hundreds of fans flocked to Leicester Square to catch a glimpse of their online idols and witness Joe Sugg and Caspar Lee – who have over 10 million subscribers on YouTube and over a billion video views between them – drive the VW camper van as seen in the film itself down the red carpet.
Fans across the UK were also able to take part in the premiere experience from the comfort of their own home by watching it being live streamed on BBC Worldwide Digital Studio’s YouTube page. Almost 20,000 fans watched Jim Chapman take them on a virtual walk down the red carpet on YouTube and in excess of 11,000 fans submitted questions for the stars of the show Joe Sugg and Caspar Lee on Twitter.
Joe Sugg says: “It’s absolutely amazing to have so many of our fans, friends and family at the premiere, we’re overwhelmed by everyone’s support. Massive thanks to our fans who watched the live stream of the red carpet on YouTube.”
Caspar Lee adds: “What a time to be alive! Thank you to everyone who’s ever supported us, I can’t believe this is happening to us. This is so surreal.”
Joe & Caspar Hit The Road is a feel-good film that captures all the fun of friends on an epic European adventure and became Amazon’s biggest selling pre-order title of 2015 in just one day. The film sees Joe challenge Caspar, who has never had a proper job, to survive the seven day trip using only the money they can earn each day. They offer themselves up for employment in a series of unusual tasks such as learning to be gondoliers in Venice, working as deckhands on a superyacht and becoming street performers on Barcelona’s famous Las Ramblas.
Joe & Caspar Hit The Road is released in the UK and Ireland on 23rd November on DVD and digital download.
