Today the eighth Harry Potter book has been announced, “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts 1 and 2”.
As well as hitting the West end this summer, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will also be released as a book.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child opens as a play in London in July with the script being released as a book at the end of that month.
Based on a story by JK Rowling, the Cursed Child is set 19 years after the Deathly Hallows.
Today JK Rowling confirmed the news with “The Eighth Story, Nineteen Years Later”.
Here’s the full synopsis for the story: “It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and father of three school-age children.
“While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes darkness comes from unexpected places.”
The official premier is set to be July 30th and the book will be released the following day on the 31st of July.
A Special Rehearsal Edition of the script “will comprise of the version of the play script at the time of the play’s preview performances”. The preview period starts on June 7.
“Theatre previews allow the creative team the chance to rehearse and explore scenes further before a production’s official opening night,” the site explained.
“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child opens for previews several weeks before its official first performance on Saturday July 30, and the Special Rehearsal Edition of the script book will later be replaced by a Definitive Collector’s Edition.”
The play has been written by Jack Thorne along with the guidance from the author herself JK Rowling.
Pottermore confirmed: “Print and digital editions will publish simultaneously after the play’s world premiere this summer, and will comprise of the version of the play script at the time of the play’s preview performances.”
Jamie Parker, Paul Thornley and Noma Dumezweni will play Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger in the play, which picks up on the trio 19 years after the events of the Deathly Hallows.
And as if that wasn’t enough for Harry Potter fans four special editions of Harry Potter and the Philosophers stone will be released in 2017, one for each house, to mark the book’s 20th anniversary.
