Simon Cowell has revealed that he thinks Rita Ora and Cheryl are too selfish to be X Factor judges!
This year’s X Factor judging panel consists of Simon Cowell, Sharon Osbourne, Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger, with many left questioning the absence of Rita Ora and Cheryl.
However, Simon Cowell has hinted that he believes the pair are too selfish to be on the X Factor judging panel as they are more focused on developing their own careers instead of aiding new artists’ in their bid for stardom.
He told the Daily Mirror: “When you’re sitting as a judge and you’re judging these shows you have to like people. If you don’t, you can’t do this job. It’s as simple as that.
“I mean, this is one of the issues I have at the moment when you put too many singers on a judging panel.
“Singers don’t want to find other stars. It’s just not in their DNA. They only think about themselves. That is the nature of being a solo artist.”
He went on to defend himself as a perfect judge as “cold-hearted A&R guy” who owns a record label and therefore his only focus is finding a star.
However, this may seem a rather controversial statement as this year sees the return of Nicole Scherzinger who was previously a member of the Pussycat Doll and has now gone on to have a successful solo career, suggesting that she should be no different than Cheryl or Rita Ora.
Although, Dermot O’Leary would beg to differ on this argument as he has branded Nicole Scherzinger “best judge” on this year’s panel.
Speaking at the show’s London press launch, O’Leary told BBC News: “She works the hardest.”
Scherzinger said: “I’m very competitive, very picky, I really care. Otherwise, if you don’t put everything into it and everything isn’t as great as it can be, why do it?”
The X Factor continues tonight on ITV at 8pm.
