Strictly Come Dancing has beaten X Factor by nearly a million viewers in the first ratings battle.
Last night saw the first ratings battle between X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing as Strictly Come Dancing launched with it’s pairing show and the X Factor was on it’s second week of room auditions.
However, there was no scheduling clash between the two shows which worked out in their favour.
Strictly came out as the clear winner with 9.3 million viewers, up 600,000 on 2015’s launch and 900,000 viewers on the figure from 2014.
However, it was not all bad news for Simon Cowell and The X Factor team.
Last night’s show received an audience of 8.3 million viewers, which is up 1.5 million viewers on last Saturday and 800,000 viewers on 2015’s second Saturday episode.
This follows last week’s disappointing launch show figures.
The new series opened last week with the lowest figures in more than a decade and down 800,000 on 2015.
Meanwhile, Newzoids on ITV with 3.3 million viewers whilst Stephen Mulhern’s Go For It suffered against Strictly Come Dancing with 2.5 million viewers.
As it was only the red carpet launch, Strictly Come Dancing will not be returning until later this month, but The X Factor will return tonight at 8pm on ITV.
