The legendary British actor, John Hurt has died of cancer just days after his 77th birthday.
Legendary Hollywood actor John Hurt has sadly passed away.
John Hurt had a career that spanned four decades, featuring two Academy Award nominations and roles in The Elephant Man, 1984 and Doctor Who.
The Hollywood actor had been treated for pancreatic cancer in 2015: “I can’t say I worry about mortality, but it’s impossible to get to my age and not have a little contemplation of it.
“We’re all just passing time, and occupy our chair very briefly. But my treatment is going terrifically well, so I’m optimistic.”
Lady Hurt confirmed Sir John had died on Wednesday – He died at his home in Norfolk.
The statement read: “John was the most sublime of actors and the most gentlemanly of gentlemen with the greatest of hearts and the most generosity of spirit,
“He touched all our lives with joy and magic and it will be a strange world without him.”
Sir John famously played wand-maker Mr Ollivander in the Harry Potter films.
Author of Harry Potter books, JK Rowling, said: “So very sad to hear that the immensely talented and deeply beloved John Hurt has died. My thoughts are with his family and friends.”
