Last night saw one of the most anticipated evenings in the world of show business, The Grammy Awards, and it was dominated by one person- Adele.
Adele won big at last night’s Grammy Awards, winning a total of 5 Grammys!
She won Best Vocal Pop Album and Album of the Year for her outstanding album ’25’ whilst her hit single Hello won her three awards: Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Solo Pop Performance. She also achieved the sweep of the top three awards 5 years ago with ’21’ and is now the only artist to win album, record and song of the year, twice.
And in true Adele style, in her acceptance speech she focused on her fellow nominee, Beyoncé, who was nominated for 9 awards:
“But I can’t possibly accept this award. I’m very humbled and I’m very grateful and gracious. But my artist of my life is Beyoncé. And this album to me, the Lemonade album, is just so monumental. Beyoncé, it’s so monumental, and so well thought out, and so beautiful and soul-baring and we all got to see another side to you that you don’t always let us see. And we appreciate that. And all us artists here adore you. You are our light.”
“The way that you make me and my friends feel… The way you make my black friends feel, is empowering. And you make them stand up for themselves. And I love you. I always have and I always will.”
However, Beyoncé did go home with two awards: Best urban contemporary album for “Lemonade” and a music video prize for the song “Formation.”
She spoke about her aspirations for her album ‘Lemonade’ in her acceptance speech:
“It is important to me to show images to my children that reflect their beauty,” so they will “have no doubt that they are beautiful, intelligent and capable.”
She added, “This is something I want for every child of every race.”
In other Grammy news, it appears Adele may have confirmed her marriage to Simon Konecki as she referred to her ‘husband’ during her acceptance speech:
‘Grammys, I appreciate it, the Academy, I love you, my manager, my husband and my son – you’re the only reason I do it.’
Although Adele has not officially confirmed this news, many fans are taking this as confirmation of the rumors which have been sparking since Christmas.
Congratulations to all the winners at last night’s Grammys!
