Based on the best-selling books by Jay Asher, 13 Reasons Why follows teenager Clay Jensen as he returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch.

Inside he discovers cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker, his classmate and crush, who tragically committed suicide two weeks earlier.

On tape, Hannah explains that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Through Hannah and Clay’s dual narratives, 13 Reasons Why weaves an intricate and heart wrenching story of teenage life that will deeply affect viewers.

Netflix have revealed they’ve renewed the show for a second 13-episode season which will premiere in 2018.

Season 2 will show the aftermath of Hannah Baker’s death and the journeys of the characters healing and recovery.

13 Reasons Why is currently showing on Netflix has been a huge success, but it has caused some controversy.

Selena Gomez has recently responded to critics of ’13 Reasons Why’.

Selena is an executive producer of the show, and she’s spoken out about the criticism the show has faced while speaking to the Associated Press this week.

“We stayed very true to the book and initially what Jay Asher created, [which] was a beautifully tragic, complicated yet suspenseful story, and I think that’s what we wanted to do,” she said.

“We wanted to do it justice and, yeah, [the backlash is] going to come no matter what,” the actress added. “It’s not an easy subject to talk about, but I’m very fortunate with how it’s doing and I’m overwhelmed, very proud of it.”
