Glen Campbell passes away aged 81!


    County music star Glen Campbell has sadly died at the age of 81.

    It has been confirmed on Glen Campbell’s official website that the County music legend has sadly passed away.

    In a statement it reads: “It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and legendary singer and guitarist, Glen Travis Campbell, at the age of 81, following his long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

    “Glen is survived by his wife, Kim Campbell of Nashville, TN; their three children, Cal, Shannon and Ashley; his children from previous marriages, Debby, Kelli, Travis, Kane, and Dillon; ten grandchildren, great- and great-great-grandchildren; sisters Barbara, Sandra, and Jane; and brothers John Wallace “Shorty” and Gerald.

    “In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Glen Campbell Memorial Fund at BrightFocus Foundation through the donation page.

    “The family appreciates your prayers and respect for their privacy at this time.”

    Glen Campbell touched many hearts with his music, he has sold over 45 million records, released more than 70 albums, 12 RIAA gold albums, four platinum albums, and one double-platinum album.

    The country legend made history in 1967 by winning four Grammys in both the country and pop categories.

    By the end of the 1960s, he was the fastest rising star in America and he became a household name with his own TV show, the Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour.

    His best selling single ‘Rhinestone Cowboy’, which initially sold over 2 million copies, topped the charts all over the world.

    He announced his Alzheimer’s diagnosis in early 2011 and embarked on his final ‘Goodbye Tour’ with three of his children joining him in his backing band.

    In June 2017, Glen Campbell’s final album, Adiós, was released which features 12 songs from his final recording sessions in 2012 and 2013.

    Many famous faces have taken to Twitter to share their sadness about Campbell’s passing as well as to remember his great contribution to music.

    The most touching tribute came from his daughter, Ashley Campbell, who wrote: “Heartbroken. I owe him everything I am, and everything I ever will be. He will be remembered so well and with so much love.”
