I’m A Celebrity 2017 returns this week to ITV, meet this year’s celebs entering the jungle.
I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! is back which can mean only one thing… the time has come for a brand new cast of celebrities to head down under and battle it out in TV’s toughest entertainment challenge.
Leaving their plush pads and luxuries far behind, our celebrity campers will spend up to three weeks taking on the harsh surroundings of the Australian Jungle, with a whole host of brand new nasty surprises created just for them.
The ten celebrities heading into the Jungle for the new series are: Jennie McAlpine, Dennis Wise, Rebekah Vardy, Jack Maynard, ShappiKhorsandi, Amir Khan, Stanley Johnson, Vanessa White, Jamie Lomas and Georgia “Toff” Toffolo.
BAFTA award-winning hosts Ant and Dec are back to present all the big stories live from the Jungle every night.
I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! has announced they’re supporting Make a Wish UK with 15p from every phone vote being donated to the charity this year.
Here’s this year’s cast, with their official jungle photo:
Coronation Street Star: Leaving her soon to be three-year-old son, Albert, behind is going to be a trial in itself for Coronation Street actress Jennie McAlpine.
“I had to really think about this because the biggest thing is leaving my little boy,” she explains.
“Even the thought of it beforehand made me shudder. It’s going to be his birthday whilst I am in the Jungle and I spend all my time with him when I am not working on Corrie.
“Leaving Albert when I first go into the camp will be my trial… It really will.”
Retired Footballer: Former Chelsea and England player Dennis Wise has predicted his fellow football players will deliberately vote for him to take part in the trials because they will want to laugh at his expense.
Reflecting on his public reputation and decision to take part in this year’s I’m A Celebrity, Dennis admits: “I was taken aback when they approached me. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and I feel privileged to have been asked. My kids told me to do it. They were really excited.”
“But some of my friends will think I am very mad doing this. They will get enjoyment out of it. John Franco and Vinnie Jones – I am sure they will have some fun on this! They will probably vote for me to do the trials knowing them!”
“I do think people think I am a fiery character. That’s what has been portrayed in the media and that’s down to me as well in the way I also play football.”
Footballer’s wife: Rebekah Vardy reckons she is going to get voted for all the trials at the beginning – because everyone associates her with being a “WAG who doesn’t get stuck in and who doesn’t like getting her hands dirty.”
Admitting she is feeling both excited and nervous, the 35-year-old, who is married to Leicester City player, Jamie, and who has four children, also hopes viewers will get to know the real her when she goes in the Jungle.
“I am so excited but I’ve also been waking up in the middle of the night sweating and having nightmares about bugs crawling around my feet,” she admits.
“This is such an amazing thing to do and I am really looking forward to it.”
YouTuber, and Vlogger: Jack Maynard is set to become the first ever YouTube vlogger to go on I’m A Celebrity – and he can’t wait to share with his camp mates what life working on the Internet is really like.
Readily admitting he is chuffed to bits to have been picked ahead of so many other rival vloggers to go in the famous ITV Jungle, the 22-year-old Internet sensation says he hopes to do the social media world ‘proud’.
“We are the most famous people you’ve never heard of…” he says. “One of the main reasons I am definitely doing it is to be the first YouTuber to go on a show that is so massive in this country. That is quite amazing.
“You can’t get anything more high profile than this and it’s going to lead to so many other great opportunities. I can’t wait to find out what!”
Comedian: Stand-up comedian Shappi Khorsandi has spent the last few months being a vegan in preparation to survive on the Jungle’s basic food rations.
But the bubbly 44-year-old insists it’s only a temporary measure as she prepares to take on a challenge that is ‘way out of my comfort zone’.
Boxing Champion: Former world champion and British boxer, Amir Khan, readily admits going into the Jungle will be far tougher than fighting an opponent in a match as he reveals he is completely petrified of spiders, snakes and heights.
Smiling, the 30-year-old sportsman also predicts he will scream out loud when he’s confronted by his worst nightmare – coming face to face with an eight-legged insect.
“I am one guy who hates spiders,” he admits. “Whenever I see a spider at home, I get my sister to move it. I just don’t deal with it.
“I hope I don’t come across any of them when I am in the Jungle but I know I am going to. Will I scream? Yes definitely but maybe this is the time where I face my phobias! I also hate snakes and heights too.”
Author and Ex Politician: Environmental expert, novelist and former politician, Stanley Johnson, admits he can’t wait to find out what it is like living in the Jungle.
And the father of British Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson, also hopes there will be plenty of lively debates around the campfire.
Admitting he’s never actually watched I’m A Celebrity before, the gregarious and likeable 77-yearold explains he jumped at the opportunity to go on the ITV programme because he liked the element of adventure and competition.
“I am very much looking forward to it,” says Stanley. “I love Australia and I’ve done lots of different things in my life but I would say that I have not lived in a Jungle before.”
Popstar: As one of the single celebrities going into the Jungle this year, The Saturdays singer Vanessa White admits she is keeping an open mind when it comes to finding love under the stars.
Laughing, the bubbly pop star reckons nobody can second-guess what will happen on I’m A Celebrity. “Who knows? I am keeping my options open,” she declares when asked if she’d like to find a boyfriend in the camp.
Going on to explain why she wanted to go on the popular ITV programme, the 27-year-old admits she had been contemplating going travelling because she wanted to do something different away from music when the offer to appear on I’m A Celebrity was made.
“I’d actually been thinking about going travelling and doing something on my own,” she says.
“I was going to go on a yoga retreat.” “I’d always wanted to do this show but I didn’t think it was going to be right now.”
Soapstar: Hollyoaks star Jamie Lomas – who is heading into the jungle shortly after leaving the Channel 4 soap – admits he can’t wait to get involved in Jungle life.
The 42-year-old actor, who has played bad boy Warren Fox for the last three years and who has been nominated for a string of soap awards, says he felt the time was right to embark on a new chapter in his life.
Leaving the soap was, he says, a tough decision but the prospect of going on I’m A Celebrity was an opportunity he didn’t want to miss out on.
“I was actually asked about this years ago but it wasn’t the right stage in my life,” he explains. “But it’s been a good year with work and I really did feel now was the right time to branch out,”
Georgia “Toff” Toffolo
Made In Chelsea star: Living off barely any food and leaving her luxurious lifestyle behind will be a massive hurdle for Made In Chelsea star Georgia Toffolo to overcome as she vows to pose in a white bikini under the famous jungle shower.
The 23-year-old TV reality star is also dreading not being able to speak to her Granny every day.
“I call her at least 20 times a day,” she admits. “When I look at my call log, her number is always on there. I phone her for advice on everything. I am really going to miss that.”
