Survival Of The Fittest: The girls and boys take on their first team challenge

Survival Of The Fittest launches on ITV2 this evening – The boys and girls face their first challenge of the series.

The South African savannah will be the backdrop to a new ITV2 entertainment show launching this year.

Survival of the Fittest will see a group of young, hot singles living together under the searing sun as they take part in the ultimate battle of the sexes, in order to win a big cash prize.

After just a day in The Lodge, the boys and girls start a new day with a team challenge.

Everyone in The Lodge wears a smartwatch to alert the Girls and Boys to news of Challenges or Replacements. It does not tell the time and operates on a closed network so the Girls and Boys can never communicate with the world outside The Lodge.

Jenny gets a message on her watch: “Girls and Boys, in one hour you will be going head-to-head in your first team challenge, ‘Stop the Clock.’”

The fighting talk begins.

In The Treehouse, James says: “This is what we are here for. It’s guys against the girls, I am so ready, I’m going to get in that mind set. Nothing is going to stop me from beating my opponent today.”

In The Treehouse, Warren says: “To survive in this Lodge, you’ve got to win, that’s what I’m going to do.”

While Georgia says, “I mean business and I’m only here for one thing and that is the money so give it to me!”

At the Challenge Plain, James reads out the instructions: “Your first team Challenge is called ‘Stop The Clock.’ The challenge is made up of six head to head rounds.”

The players will need to complete an obstacle course before taking on one of six different mini challenges before running back to their team to stop the clock. The team with the quickest overall time will win.

First up is David and Jenny and what waits for them at the end of their course is a pile of knotted ropes which they needed to untangle to free a ball.

Dani and Callum are up next and look ahead to the obstacle course before them which includes a slide down into a pool of water, a crawl to some under-and-over hurdles and then a see saw to walk across.

Dani injures her arm at the start of the obstacle course. The challenge is stopped and she is seen immediately by show medics before being taken to hospital as a precautionary measure. As a result, Callum and Dani’s round is void.

The Team Challenge continues and Tia and Warren are faced with a sliding floor puzzle which, when put together in the correct order, allow them to retrieve a ball and run back to their teams to stop the clock.

Mariam and Ryan have to throw a ball to hit a target at the end of their obstacle course.

Georgia and James have to find the correct pegs to fit in the holes of a large tube before filling it with water which in turn floats a ball to the top. Once they retrieve the ball, they can run back to their teams to stop the clock.

Georgie and Tristan are faced with a giant puzzle they need to complete as fast as they can.

Every second counts in this race against the clock – but which sex will come out on top?

After the Challenge, the Boys return to The Lodge and take a dip in The Waterhole to clean up and cool down.

The Girls debrief on the events on the challenge on the sofa. They talk about Dani’s injury.

“Dani went down the slide and I think she hurt her arm when she landed,” Georgia says.

Jenny is proud of Dani for trying to keep going despite her injury: “Oh my God what a trooper… She carried on going!”

Georgia says, “At the end when she knew that was it, she even said ‘I’m sorry girls, I’m sorry.’”

The Girls and Boys raise a glass to Dani in the garden before David and Georgie receive messages on their watches revealing their teams’ time in the Challenge.

The result will be revealed in tonight’s show.

Survival of the Fittest, starts Sunday 11th Feb at 9pm on ITV2.
