Alton Towers suggest that major rides will be closed during tomorrow’s opening day of the 2018 season

Alton Towers have suggested that due to the cold weather the parks major rides tomorrow will be closed.

Tomorrow, Saturday 17th March Alton Towers will open to the public for it’s 2018 season.

Alton Towers have updated their website on Friday afternoon to include a statement.

The statement suggests that due to the cold weather the parks major rides, including Wicker Man, will not be open.

The statement read: “Here at Alton Towers Resort, we can’t wait to welcome guests for the 2018 Theme Park Season.

“We intend to open the theme park as planned this weekend, and our hotels are fully open as normal.

“However, the worsening weather forecast over the last 24 hours – with below zero temperatures, snow and high winds now forecast – mean it’s looking unlikely we’ll be able to operate our rollercoasters this weekend, including Wicker Man, our new thrill attraction.

They continued: “We are currently expecting to open CBeebies Land, Mutiny Bay and Sharkbait Reef by SEA LIFE as usual. We’ll continue to monitor the situation and post any updates about ride openings on our social media channels.”

For anyone who has booked tickets for tomorrow’s 2018 season opening at the resort, Alton Towers have said: “We will do our utmost to ensure that those of you who do visit have a great time while you’re here.

“However, if you have a pre-paid ticket or accommodation and would like to re-schedule your visit until the weather improves please visit the following website page to see what your options are.”

Alton Towers have announced a new addition to the park’s ride catalog for 2018, a new wooden rollercoaster. Wicker Man is the first wooden rollercoaster to be built in the UK for 21 years, with the unique thrill of fire.

Wicker Man consists of a spectacular six-story (57.7ft) structure, featuring an impressive human face on one side and ram’s head on the other, which bursts into flames as the train races through its chest.

Alton Towers Resort has invested £16 million into the creation of Wicker Man which has been in development for the last four years.

TwitCelebGossip will be live at Alton Towers this evening (Friday 16th March) to exclusively ride Wicker Man. Keep an eye on our social pages, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for exclusive pictures and videos from the resort this evening.
