Alton Towers Resort hosted an official Wicker Man launch party on Friday evening (March 16) and some huge names in the entertainment industry attended.

Friday evening saw Alton Towers Resort host the official launch party for Wicker Man, the first wooden rollercoaster to be built in the UK for 21 years, with the unique thrill of fire.

Celebrities in attendance, who had the opportunity to experience Wicker Man ahead of the ride opening to the public, included:, Matt Terry, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Richard Jones, Joe McFadden, Lucy Fallon, Mickey North, Kieron Richardson and Rag’n’Bone Man.

Capital FM Breakfast Show host, Roman Kemp, manned the decks alongside a specially-created fire-adorned stage.

Party guests, including TwitCelebGossip, first embarked on a journey into the world of the Beornen, a secret community living in the woods around Alton.

Lured in by chanting, rhythmic sounds and unseen eyes watching them, guests at the launch were ‘chosen’ to take part in the cinematic pre-show before braving the ride itself.

The spectacular six-story (57.7ft) Wicker Man structure, featuring an impressive human face on one side and ram’s head on the other, bursts into flames as the train races through its chest.

Alton Towers Resort has invested £16 million into the creation of Wicker Man which has been in development for the last four years.
