Declan Donnelly praised by fans as he triumphantly hosts Saturday Night Takeaway without Ant McPartlin

Declan Donnelly has been praised by fans after he triumphantly hosted Saturday Night Takeaway without his sidekick Ant McPartlin.

Declan Donnelly hosted ITV’s Saturday Night Takeaway solo for the first time this evening, after his sidekick Ant prepares for court following his drink driving accident.

Emotional fans took to Twitter to praise the 42-year-old, as he returned to the ITV stage alone on Saturday.

One viewer said: “Dec has smashed tonight’s #SaturdayNightTakeaway. I knew he would be incredible, well done @antanddec!”

Another viewer said: “So sad that Ant isn’t on Saturday night takeaway but Dec is doing a brilliant job! #SaturdayNightTakeaway”

Ant has checked himself back into rehab following his drink-driving charge, he is set to appear in court on April 4.

Dec joked at the start of tonight’s show saying: “We have got a jam-packed show, this week we have lots to cram in and twice the amount of work to do”.

Tonight’s Saturday Night Takeaway featured Stephen Merchant on duty as the Star Guest Announcer, and Stephen Mulhern took to the streets of Warrington for In for a Penny.

Paloma Faith closed the show in the End of the Show Show and the Script made an appearance for Singalong Live.

Next weekend’s Takeaway will be live from Universal Studios Orlando for the series finale.
