For a one-off festive edition of the comedy, which returned after a nine-year break, Gavin and Stacey have sent fans wild on social media on Christmas day.

The special episode starred the original cast Mathew Horne, Joanna Page, James Corden and Ruth Jones.

The Shipmans travelled to Wales to spend Christmas with the Wests, but for Gavin and Stacey, parenthood continued to present them with several challenges, in the one-off special, which also featured their `baby’ who is now nine.

Smithy also continued to commit to his fatherly role, making the journey to Barry at weekends and every second Wednesday to see 12-year-old Neil the Baby.

Nessa adopted her own style of mothering, while Pam, Mick and Gwen became the epitome of doting grandparents.

Although on Christmas Eve, Dawn made a shocking discovery about Pete that jeopardised their marriage – again.

At the end of the special, fans saw Nessa propose to Smithy outside Stacey’s family home.

One fan said: “DID THEY REALLY JUST END GAVIN AND STACEY LIKE THAT”

While another said: “hey cannot end it like that WHAT?”
