Gavin and Stacey co-writer Ruth Jones has hinted there could be future episodes of the hit BBC show following on from the Christmas special.
For a one-off festive edition of the comedy, which returned after a nine-year break, Gavin and Stacey have sent fans wild on social media on Christmas day.
The Christmas special ended on a huge cliffhanger stunning fans and prompted a petition for a new series, as Ruth’s character Nessa proposed to James Corden’s character Smithy.
Ruth told the media at an early screening of the one-off episode a few days ago, quoted by the Telegraph: “The journey between Smithy and Nessa is an interesting one and as you can see now it’s not necessarily over.
“Honestly, hand on heart at the moment there is no plan,” Ruth continued.
“There have been no post-it notes, there have been no sitting in another room mapping out another episode but I think obviously there is room for it to move on but who knows?”
Ruth also mentioned in an interview with The Sun it was difficult to sit down with co-writer James Corden and script the Christmas episode, which took a whopping 3 years to write.
“It is so complicated for me and James to get together to write,” Ruth told the paper.
“I do say never say never, as while we did make it work that was after three years of trying to find time when we could sit down and write it.”
The special episode starred the original cast Mathew Horne, Joanna Page, James Corden and Ruth Jones.
You can rewatch the special on BBC iPlayer.
