ITV have announced that their streaming platform, ITVX, has officially hit one billion streams.
On Easter Sunday 2023, ITVX officially hit the one billion streams mark, just over four months after its launch on December 8th in 2022.
This is a remarkable achievement for ITV, as their previous most successful year for streaming, in 2022, took nearly seven months to hit the one billion streams mark.
ITVX’s best-ever month for streaming was in March 2023, with 282 million streams, up by more than 100 million from the previous year. Gripping dramas like The Twelve, Without Sin, and A Spy Among Friends have been the top-performing ITVX premieres, attracting harder-to-reach audiences to the service. 80% of audiences who have watched ITVX premieres have gone on to watch other content on the platform, including titles like Nolly and Litvinenko.
The most popular UK drama series from the archive on ITVX is Footballers Wives, while One Tree Hill has the highest volume of streams to date amongst the range of US boxsets on ITVX. Love Actually is the most popular film in the period, while The Chase channel is the most popular themed (FAST) channel to date.
Love Island has been a strong driver of streaming in 2023 and is the most-watched programme on ITVX this year based on streams. The fifth series of Unforgotten has been the most watched drama, with streams up 49% on series four. Livestream audiences for sporting events, including the 6 Nations Rugby and the FA Cup, have also pulled in strong numbers.
Since launch, ITVX’s consideration and awareness scores have risen strongly, with recent data from YouGov’s BrandIndex tool revealing that ITVX has overtaken All4 and Disney+ in terms of consideration.
ITVX’s forthcoming highlights include The Real Crown: Inside the House of Windsor, a behind-the-scenes story of the lives, loves, scandals, trials, and tribulations of the world’s most famous family. The series will stream free from April 20th.
New drama Tom Jones, based on Henry Fielding’s classic novel, will stream free on ITVX from May 4th, starring Solly McLeod (The Rising) as the hero Tom, alongside Sophie Wilde (You Don’t Know Me) as the heroine Sophia Western. The series also stars Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso).
On May 11th, Crime on ITVX, the Irvine Welsh series starring Dougray Scott, Joanna Vanderham, and Angela Griffin, will premiere for free on the service.
The two-part documentary Rolf Harris: Hiding in Plain Sight will stream from May 18th. Almost a decade on from his arrest, the films speak directly to Harris’ accusers, telling the story of how his assaults became gradually more serious throughout his television career in the 70s and 80s.
ITVX has had a tremendous start to its streaming journey, with its content resonating with audiences and driving strong numbers. With a host of exciting programming still to come, it is clear that ITVX is set to go from strength to strength.
