Cilla Battersby-Brown (mum of Fiz and Chesney) will be returning to the cobbles after 7 years.
Cilla, played by Wendi Peters, will be making a surprise return to Weatherfield to see her kids.
“I’m really thrilled to have the opportunity to revisit Cilla and the cobbles for a short while and to see what she has been up to for the last seven years,” Wendi said.
Cilla was last seen in the DVD spin-off Coronation Street: Out Of Africa in 2008 but will be back in Corrie for six weeks from October.
Details of her storyline are still being kept a secret but it is thought her it is thought her arrival will coincide with Jennie McAlpine’s maternity leave. Jennie, who plays Fiz in the soap, will leave the show in autumn to have her first baby.
“We can’t wait to see Cilla back on the cobbles, she’s a truly unforgettable character who is at the heart of Corrie’s rich history.”said the show’s producer Stuart Blackburn.
In October 2007, after making a bunch of enemies while on the show, Cilla inherited a £45K necklace (from a pensioner who died whilst in her care) and left for Vegas.
During her 7 year break from the show, Wendi has worked in theatre, in the The Mystery Of Edwin Drood, Rutherford And Son and White Christmas (which she will return to at the Dominion Theatre in London’s West End this Christmas).
As well as that, Wendi has also worked on TV as the narrator of ITV’s Britain’s Best Bakery, and in 2009 she was a finalist in Celebrity Masterchef.
